Happy Birthday, Caroline Valentine

Today is my niece's 10th birthday. She was born on Valentine's Day, so it seemed natural that she was named Valentine. She complains however that her special day always falls during the middle of the week; she just needs to get used to celebrating her birthday for several days! She can have a party on the weekend, and cake and ice cream and presents on the 14th, as well.

This picture was taken at Thanksgiving of 2012 in the country around her aunt Sue's in the little community of Lingleville, Erath County, Texas. Her favorite color is pink. She is in the accelerated class of her 5th grade and smart as she can be. She enjoys her brother and sister, their puppy, helping in the kitchen, and making cookies at my house, especially at Christmas.

I used a scrap kit called "Ice Cream and Cake" created by Rainy at Sweetz, and SC_Sketch 321 from Scrapbook Challenges.

Old Man Winter Wearing Winter Clothes

When a friend of mine from our Friends of Scrapz group suggested the Theme for the week of Dec 9th should be Old Man Winter wearing Winter Clothing, these snapshots kept popping into my head. They are my mom and dad before they were married with her two sisters and a couple of their girlfriends from school and a couple of soldiers from the Army base right outside of Mineral Wells, Texas. Back in the '40s when this was taken and as America was getting into WWII, Fort Wolters was a holding camp for recruits and Army personnel who eventually went overseas. In the '60s it was the training base for Helicopter Pilots who went to Vietnam. At that time, in 1961, it was where I met Shubert.
My beautiful Aunt Irene is the one acting like she is going to climb up into the scrawny tree and she is the one with the dark plaid coat on in the other pictures. My mother's beautiful twin, Maedelle, is in the tree picture on the left with her arms crossed; she is also the one standing behind Irene on the left with her hand in her jacket pocket in the 2nd oval picture of all the girls. My mom, Vernelle, is standing in the middle beside Maedelle and wearing the dark coat with bright buttons. My dad is the civilian in the leather jacket on the far left in the group picture. My mom must have been taking that particular picture.
The entire group looks like they are freezing, but really enjoying themselves. I have always enjoyed these pictures and loved looking at those beautiful coats the girls have on.
I used one of the pages from Far Hill's Vintage French illustrations. I also used elements from Raspberry Road's "Tis the Season".

My Little Cupcake!

My Youngest Grandson

He is isn't a baby any longer - but he is still my sweet little cupcake! He reminds me of those sprinkles, sprinkles everywhere. As sweet as they are and as sweet as the frosting.

A Valentine for Caroline Valentine

Our Valentine Birthday Girl is Caroline Valentine. She can be as sweet as these candied hearts and cupcakes! Happy 7th birthday and Happy Valentine's Day, Caroline.

I used a Tube tutorial and elements from Scrap and Tubes and Candy's Treats. I really enjoyed creating this confection!

Valentine for a Car Junky

Yes, I know he seems a little young, but he loves those NASCARS! My sister's oldest has picked up his Papa's love of old trucks and fast cars. Thought the freebie QP from Soda Pop Shop and Divine Digital makes a "sweet" Valentine!

A Five-Year Old's Vision of a Valentine

My sister's youngest ~ she helped me make her Valentine. She sat here and picked out all of the things she wanted on it. I think she did a great job, don't you?

We used pretty papers and elements from Meadorlady at Creative Elegance Designs and Mary of Mary's Mixes.

6th Valentine, Sweet Valentine!

My youngest grandson, in fact, my youngest grandchild, is the perfect one to receive this sweet treat with teddy bear included from Scrap and Tube. Doesn't he look innocent with that scrape on his cheek?

Gratitude

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the morning light, for your life and strength. Give thanks for your food, and the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies with yourself.
